CULTURAL MONTH!

Haitian Heritage Month is a nationally dedicated time
where the Haitian community celebrates the culture and traditions of
Haiti. The celebration is an expansion of the Haitian Flag Day on May
18th, a major patriotic day celebration in Haiti and the Diaspora
created to encourage patriotism.

Miami International Airport’s Bel Kongo Art Exhibition celebrates Haitian Heritage Cultural
Month. On display through September, the exhibition features works by
artists from Miami Bridge youth crisis shelters, the Gang Alternative
program and the North Miami Public Library, which were inspired by
Haitian Carnival. Children worked alongside Miami-based artists such
as painter Daleus and master drummer Catelus “Ton Ton” Laguerre to
create Bel Kongo, which includes papier mâché masks of Jakmel and
self-portraits.

Carnival Corporation's Fathom Adonia Begins Historic
Cuba Service from PortMiami
After months of anticipation, the Fathom Adonia (Fathom is one of
Carnival Cruise Line’s newest brands) departed PortMiami bound for
Cuba on Sunday, May 1. The itinerary includes visits to three
historic Cuban Cities including Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de
Cuba.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Announces Return to MIA
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced today that it will begin three
weekly flights from Miami International Airport to Amsterdam,
beginning on October 30, 2016. Through March 23, 2017, KLM will
operate flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays between MIA and
its Schiphol Airport hub. The seasonal service is a return to MIA for
KLM, which last served the global gateway hub in 2011.

YMCA Honors Homestead’s Jenny Nguyen
The YMCA offered free swim lessons during the week of May 2-6 in
honor of Jenny Nguyen, a resident of Homestead who lost her life in a
tragic drowning accident in 2011. The program was created to provide
children and adults with survival skills in the water; skills that
could be the difference between life and death.
