CAMACOL has been a pioneer in the international business sector. For over 35 years CAMACOL has been active in this area through its Hemispheric Congress of Latin Chambers of Commerce and Industry, a program which is unique in that it has an established infrastructure comprised of the presidents of the national chambers of commerce throughout the Latin America and Caribbean region, as well as Spain. This infrastructure facilities business linkages for Florida companies in the export sector, and supports new to export business as well.

No other organization in the State of Florida has this established infrastructure. The Congress has a hands-on approach to trade development and advocacy and works in tandem with the Florida Trade program sponsored by the State of Florida by assisting small and minority companies to establish business linkages between Miami, Florida and the global marketplace.
The Congress has a year long program of activities which culminates in the 4-day event, where businesses can meet over 22 countries in 4 days. As such, the Hemispheric Congress has enabled the development of linkages which have translated into the creation of jobs and revenue for our community and State. The dates for the 35th Hemispheric Congress are from June 2-5, 2014 at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida.

CAMARA DE COMERCIO LATINA DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS (CAMACOL).
Chamber History

The Latin Chamber of Commerce of the United States, CAMACOL is the largest Hispanic business organization in the State of Florida and one of the most influential minority business groups in the United States.

For nearly five decades, CAMACOL's mission is to foster the entrepreneurial spirit of Florida's Hispanic and minority communities, and as such, it conducts programs to strengthen local business activity, promote economic development, facilitate international commerce, and serve the civic needs of the community and state.

Through its Hemispheric Congress, its flagship program, CAMACOL has provided businesses with the opportunity of establishing commercial linkages in the domestic and international marketplace for more than three decades. As such, through its Hemispheric Congress, whose mission is to link businesses throughout the globe, promote Miami Dade County and the State of Florida as the Gateway State, CAMACOL has provided the business community with the opportunity of establishing commercial linkages in the international marketplace.
CAMACOL works with our community leaders and partners on local, statewide and national and international level to ensure that our economy recovers and grows. Our programs focus on fostering job creation, retention and development.

In essence CAMACOL's mission as an economic developer is to develop and strengthen the small and minority business sectors and to facilitate activities that foster economic growth and jobs.

As mentioned, currently CAMACOL manages many programs; however, the following are three major economic and business development programs:

The Hemispheric Congress of Latin Chambers of Commerce and Industy

The track record of the Hemispheric Congress comprises a 36 year history as an international business forum and network of the national chambers of commerce throughout the Latin American and Caribbean region and their counterparts in the United States. As such, the Hemispheric Congress spearheaded the free trade movement and was a catalyst of sweeping changes on economic integration, which have revolutionized international trade landscape of today.

The founders of the Hemispheric Congress had the foresight to envision an established international business forum and information network with two straight forward objectives: The promotion of private enterprise and the strengthening of the democratization process. Consolidated concepts with one united voice that has ardently advocated for the enactment of bilateral and multilateral free trade legislation, economic integration and democratization through support of the free trade process.

Innovative leadership and commitment to the principles of free market and democratization have been iconic guidelines of the Hemispheric Congress. Since its inception the Congress has facilitated policies and reforms which advocate for the private sector within the parameters of economic and social responsibility; sustainable development through responsible commercial activity.

·        The governing body of the Hemispheric Congress is the Permanent Secretariat of the Hemispheric Congress.

The members of the board are delegate members and presidents of national chambers of commerce and industry from the region and the Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in the United States. Headquartered at the Latin Chamber of Commerce, CAMACOL in Miami, Florida

More bandwidth! The FCC defines broadband right at last (InfoWeek)

More bandwidth! The FCC defines broadband right at last

internet

With the new classification of broadband as 25Mbps down, 3Mbps up, the heart of FCC chairman Tom Wheeler also seems six times bigger

Frankly, the 3Mbps upstream minimum is still too low, but the 25Mbps downstream is adequate. This means that suddenly, many Americans no longer have broadband Internet access — and realistically, they haven’t in any way but name for many years now.
It was somewhat amusing to witness the entrenched ISPs talk out of both sides of their mouths on this issue. On the one hand, they swore up and down that 4Mbps was more than enough to stream HD content, while at the same time advertised 25Mbps and faster plans as “HD streaming capable,” which as we all know is the real truth.
For years we have heard the big ISPs say that consumers don’t want faster Internet access. Whatever the upper number happened to be, whether 5Mbps, 10Mbps, or 25Mbps, it was always more than anyone wanted or needed. It should come as no surprise that the big ISPs will say and do anything to remain on their cartel-like perch, offering the bare minimum of service for top-shelf prices and complaining about how any form of regulation would be ruinous to their ample bottom lines. Remember, these are the same companies that are continuing to charge higher and higher fees for decade-old cable boxes and modems with impunity. All the while, an impertinent little burr of reality called Google Fiber has been messing with their Oliver Twist dialog. The only places you see services growing and prices stabilizing or dropping is where Google has either begun a rollout or threatened to do so. A few years ago, I opined that the mere existence of Google Fiber might be enough to cause ripples through the complacent ISP industry — enough to slow or even reverse the unconscionable trend toward metering, data caps, and tiered services, as well as light a fire under the ISPs' stagnant coverage and services. It seems that might actually be coming to pass.
Not that Google’s endeavor to upend a fat, dumb, and happy industry and implement real change is necessarily rooted in altruism. Google needs customers -- customers with fast and reliable Internet access. Google saw that if Internet access in the United States was to be portioned out like bread and water in a medieval prison, its own bottom line would suffer. Naturally, the company decided to do something about it. This, incidentally, is the same reason Google is backing Elon Musk’s plan to outfit the globe with 4,000 satellites to distribute the Internet to everyone.
But beyond that, this FCC ruling means that roughly 20 percent of U.S. households are not able to access broadband Internet. Further, an additional 55 percent of U.S. households have only a single option for broadband Internet.
This heavily reinforces the argument in favor of reclassification of ISPs as Title II common carriers, and it provides further evidence that the Comcast/Time Warner Cable merger would be disastrous. In one fell swoop, the FCC has caught up with 2010 bandwidth needs (which, while still not current, is better than languishing back in 2005), and it has set the stage for what is easily one of the most important decisions the FCC has ever made: reclassification of ISPs as Title II common carriers.
FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is 68 years old, an age when one might reflect on one's life and legacy. It came as a welcome surprise that he railed against the GOP's abhorrent "Net neutrality" bill last Thursday, warning (righteously) that it jeopardized "the most powerful network in the history of mankind." That doesn't sound like the Tom Wheeler that had to clarify that he's "not a dingo."
All of this is quite promising, but the big enchilada, the Title II vote, will determine whether Wheeler might become that hero after all.
Oh, and make sure you don't miss the comment from disappointed FCC commissioner Ajit Pai after this vote: “Some people believe that we are on a path to interplanetary teleportation. Should we include the estimated bandwidth for that as well?” This, folks, is one of the five people currently deciding on the future of the Internet in the United States. To call that a disturbing notion is an understatement.

Lawmakers call for investigation of Verizon supercookies (InfoWorld)

Senators may push for legislation to address the hard-to-defeat tracking cookies on Verizon mobile subscribers' phones

Government agencies should investigate whether Verizon Wireless' use of so-called supercookies to track the online activities of its subscribers amount to privacy violations, three U.S. senators said Friday.

Verizon's use of the respawning, hard-to-defeat cookies on its mobile subscribers' phones raises serious privacy problems, said the senators, all Democrats. Senators are considering new legislation to rein in the use of hard-to-delete cookies, said Senator Bill Nelson of Florida.
News reports last year also identified AT&T as using supercookies, but the company later dropped the activity.
"This whole supercookie business raises the specter of corporations being able to peek into the habits of Americans without their knowledge or consent," Nelson said in a statement. "That's why I think we need to get to the bottom of this and perhaps new legislation."
Nelson, along with Senators Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Edward Markey of Massachusetts, asked the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission to investigate Verizon's use of supercookies.
Supercookies, in particular, may violate the FCC's rules and policies related to consumer privacy and transparency, the senators wrote in a letter to the agency.
Verizon said it will respond to the senators' most recent letters. Just last week, the three senators, along with Senator Brian Schatz, a Hawaii Democrat, wrote Verizon a letter asking the company for an explanation of its supercookie program.
"Verizon takes our customers' privacy seriously," the company said in response to the new letters.
Last month, Verizon said it would allow customers to opt out of supercookies. Nelson said he would rather see consumers have to opt in to tracking.
In recent weeks, computer scientist Jonathan Mayer found that online advertising company Turn used Verizon's supercookies to track the Internet activity of the company's subscribers, even after some had tried to delete the cookies.
Verizon has also published a Web page explaining the supercookie program. The program, using a Unique Identifier Header [UIDH], "was designed with privacy protections in place -- it changes automatically and frequently and it does not contain any customer information," the company said.
The UIDH is not present on encrypted traffic or when a device is connected through Wi-Fi or Virtual Private Networks, Verizon said.

Great Appreciation Networking Reception at CAMACOL
